Twitch App Stream Discovery Journey

The Ask

When users logged into the Twitch app, I wanted to add to the user journey in a way that helped new users navigate the platform. I wanted to offer users the chance to curate their feed to look for streams that aligned with their interests. For this project, I settled on the route the user would take if they were into gaming.

Flow Overview

The flow would go as such, users would log into their Twitch account, and would be presented with an option to use the new service. If they are not interested, they can simply cancel out of the process and return to the default discovery page. If they are interested, they will be taken through a series of screens to narrow down their interests and recommend certain streamers that fit their selections.

Here, you can see the entire process from start to finish. Including the extra paths users might take.

Asset Design

After some basic wireframing, I got to work on designing a few components for this project. This ranged from buttons to drop down menus and different variations for many of the interactable spaces throughout the experience.

Step 1:

Introduction Screen

This is where the user would first enter the journey. Here, the app would inform the user that this service is available to help them narrow down their interests.

Step:

1.5 (Optional):

Decline the service

If the user is not interested in the service, they are more than welcome to decline and continue onto the default discovery page.

Step 2:

Select your interest

For the purposes of this journey, the user was told to select only one interest. The reason for this was to help a new user ease into the platform and slowly consume more content the more involved they got with the platform.

Step 3:

Interest Categories

Each users interests are very different, but generally speaking, Twitch is able to separate them out via what type of content it is. For example the categories listed here are all taken directly from the Twitch discovery page, providing a wide enough net to help any user select the category they were interested in.

Step 4:

Narrow Down your Interests

Now, the user will be able to hone in their interests. For the gaming category, there are many ways to specify what they are looking for. Once the user inputs what they are interested in, Twitch will be able to recommend streamers that will fit their choices.

Step 5:

Twitch Compiles the Recommendations

Now that Twitch has all the users inputs, they will be able to use their algorithm to recommend content that fits their interets.

Step 6:

View Your Recommendations

The final part in this process is the big pay off. Here, users will be able to see who Twitch recommends for them based on their choices earlier. From this screen, the user will be able to click on each streamer to be taken to their stream.
